Erazmus

Postby Urbish » Tue Apr 28, 2020 7:12 pm

With the recent low-rider Cub photos making the rounds and being loopy from quarantining over the last 6 weeks, I decided to 'make' one of my own.

I pulled the rear tires in preparation for some new rubber and decided to try a pair of trailer wheels on the back. I'm going to call it Erazmus, as in Erazmus B. Dragon. Ridiculous.

Pros: Easier to get on and off, low ground speed at idle, will lay a mean patch on concrete when you hold the left brake, mule drive sorta acts like a set of wheelie bars (not that you'd need 'em, but looks like it is always doing a mild wheelie, so that's fun, or something).

Cons: Low ground speed at full RPM in 3rd, something slightly above zero traction on turf/dirt/mud, looks stupid, rough ride at 50psi, drags the right tire when holding right brake, low fuel runs away from fuel bowl.

Bottom Line: Do not recommend.

I think I need a beer.

Hah, I have plenty of projects. But it was totally worth 30 minutes of my evening to try out this idea. If I get REALLY bored, I'll put the rears on the front and some smaller 5-bolt trailer rims on the back. Would have to remove the drawbar, mounts, and mule drive to make that work though.

Then I'll start the totally unnecessary, but probably necessary for mobility, Front Wheel Drive conversion.
