Stripped Choke Lever Repair
To repair a stripped choke lever, grind a flat spot on the choke shaft and cut a corresponding notch in the choke lever. Using the end off the old throttle shaft, fashion a metal key that results in a tight fit. This will weaken the choke shaft, but there is not much stress on this component. New choke shafts are no longer available.
George Willer created a new and improved choke lever shown in the picture below, on the right. It grabs the choke shaft with gusto and allows for longer choke rod travel. Both work equally well in resolving the stripped shaft problem.
