I am Warren Rhodes of Allen Tx. Went to work for IH in 1972 and worked for IH/CaseIH for nearly 20 yrs. Was let go after returning from Desert Storm. Moved on with my life and started collecting Cadets around 1997. At one time I had 12 or 13, depending on the month the inventory was taken. I worked with Bob Stone (now deceased) who was interested in the IH 50's thru 70's tractors and ended up with 15 units.

After he passed, we let the units got in poor condition and I am now trying to get them but up to his standards for the family. It is proving to be more of a job than I expected.

Most of you reading this know what I am experiencing. Figured batteries and fuel would be the problems but finding the ignition is being a bear.

Will be looking at lots of posts and probably looking for much information.

I loved this tractor then and I still love it now.

Welcome Warren. I hope that you have good luck with your tractors. Sounds like you might have been around these for awhile.

Welcome to the Forum! It does sound like you have a big task ahead of you.

Take some time and read through a few threads to acquaint yourself with the Forum, especially on how to load pictures:

You may already have all the manuals you need, but after your 2nd post on the Forum, you'll have access to the all the PDF Manuals on this site. There’s a few ways to do that:
  • From a desktop or laptop, go to "Quick Links" in the upper left corner of your screen. Hit that and a pull-down appears where you'll find "PDF Manuals".
  • You can also go to “Cub Info” in the upper toolbar, then hit “Rudi’s Manuals”. From there, you can access a variety of information.
  • If you're using a phone, go to the "Links Directory" (second category down the main page). Once in "Links Directory" , scroll down to the second section "Tractor Parts & Manuals" and you'll find them there.

Don't know if you're aware of the National International Harvester Collectors Club, but here's a link to it and if you scroll down to the bottom, you'll see a link to Harvester Heritage Preservation Program. Since you worked for IH, I believe you'd qualify to submit a story: "National International Harvester Collectors Club"
Remember:
  • When you have a specific question, start a new thread in the appropriate sub-forum.
  • Before posting, use the Preview button before hitting Submit--it'll show you exactly what your post will look like, including pictures.
  • When adding your comments to a thread, be sure to look at the date of the last poster. If it’s more than a 6 months old, the posters are probably not going to see it. Consider starting a new thread.

Glad you joined us.

Hi Warren.

Several of you have met Warren in the past. He has been present at multiple Cubaramas, usually with several Cub Cadets in tow. Any year he or Bob was there, our equipment was grouped together (one row back from the Walker tree). One year he brought an M-1 rifle that got some attention! Some of you may remember the Tractor Tales segment on the Shop Mule I did a dozen years ago. The same day, Bob Stone did one on his 1468:

Both segments were recorded at Bob's place.

Most of what Bob collected was new enough to have battery ignition. So there wasn't a lot of practice dealing with the occasional magneto. Lack of spark from the H-4 magneto on an A tractor got the two of us into conversation that prompted Warren to sign up here.

Welcome.

Tune up parts for IH tractors and IH garden tractors are available at the local auto parts store. My local auto parts store has them in stock.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Thanks again for the info. I found a pdf of the mag service manual in the manuals section and have down loaded it. the H-4 is explained in detail. Now if I can get parts, remove the old and replace the new, maybe the old beauty will run again.
