Chris from Central Illinois and proud owner of my 1st Cub. (I purchased for my wife in 2020 as a lawn ornament for the flower gardens...that I could not keep my hands off!) Pictures here if you can access them: https://photos.app.goo.gl/j8eWwgyWPrqSrFbbA
Year 1953 - Owner I bought it from said it sat 12 years, no battery, no battery box, original 6 volt system, repainted. I made it run the day I brought it home and to discover no working charging system and had intermittent issues with carburetion and periods of black smoke. This past winter I converted to 12 volt system, alternator, electronic ignition, autolite spark plugs, 15W-40 motor oil, added a battery box, added fuel shutoff solenoid, added strainer to gas tank and with the help of a friend in the metal working world adapted an after market carburetor for Briggs application with 3 points of adjustment. This tractor runs great!!! We pull our Cyclone Rake around the property to vacuum leaves and run a chain harrow. It will still be on display for my wife, yet is is my favorite machine to run around the acreage.

Chris, you are about 3.5 hours from the Barnyard Bash in Harrison, Ohio, in June. You and your wife should check it out and try to attend.
http://www.barnyardbash.com/
It's a great opportunity to meet other cub enthusiasts, get some hands-on experience with typical cub issues, eat some good food, and generally have a good time. If your wife isn't into twisting wrenches, the other ladies seem to stay busy, too!

Welcome to the forum. I echo Dale's invitatin to the Barnyard Bash. It is an excellent way to meet many of the forum members. We had over 60 folks last year fromabout 14 states. Most of the attendees roll in Thursday afternoon and reserve rooms for a couple nights. You can read a bit more about CubFests here, www.cubfest.com
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Thank you for the warm welcome responses! Yes, I need to consider this invitation to Barnyard Bash. A little more about myself: I just turned 50 this year. I am a building automation engineer for a big insurance company in Bloomington IL, I have my own LLC for side hustle HVAC consulting, I also have designed/install radiant floor heat for sheds, home is 11 acres outside of Bloomington which is the home I grew up in and found an opportunity to buy it from my dad when he downsized. I am vintage Allis man with 1940 WC I restored, 1954 WD 45 I use, and the neighbor was concerned when the red Cub showed up...love old tractors from a very young age. I have 2 workshops one is vacuum tube old radio electronics shop and the other is typical of small farm workshop. Glad to make new friends! -Chris Grotbo
