Tire Suggestions for 140

Postby id_birdhntr » Tue Apr 16, 2019 2:53 pm

I am looking at replacing the tires on my 140 but want them to be close to the originals. It looks like Firestone still makes a 3 rib Glide Grip tire for the fronts but any suggestions for a 9.5-24 rear tire? Only one I found was Firestone Super All Traction II that is similar.

I suggest considering going larger......11.2 x 24 or 12.4 x 24 depending on what you plan on doing with it.

That's what I have on my SA (11.2-24), and I think they look good.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into the larger tires. I dug into the history a little bit more and sounds like Goodyear was also a factory tire. Is this correct? Ours has Goodyear’s on it but thought they were replacement tires.

my 140 has 11.2-24s on it as well, I played with the idea of larger rears. with the 16s on the front it seems taller in front.

Thanks. Figured out how to post a picture so this is mine that I will be getting shipped to me in a few weeks. I did have someone verify that the existing tires are 11.2-24.Image

looks to me like it has very serviceable rear tires on it now. I like the front wheel weights too, don't often see those. If you replace those tires I am sure you could sell them to recoup some of your new tire expense. They are much better than I am running on mine! Mine have some tread separation issues at what appears to be a seam.

Congrats on the new 140! I love mine, I am sure you will love yours too!

I too have 9.5-24’s on my 140 that need to be replaced. Would i need larger wheels to go to larger tires?

depends on what size rims ( width) you have on it now, with 9 inch tires you might have 8 inch rims, would want 10 inch for an 11.2 tire

Thanks, Indy. Is there a way to measure the rim without removing the tire?

If you don't know where the measurement should be taken, M. E. Miller's FAQ page has an illustration with "rim width" identified.
https://www.millertire.com/faqs/

If the tire is mounted, fish a tape measure between the rim and wheel disk. Measure outside to outside at the proper place. You will probably over-measure. The rims are sized in one inch increments. Take whatever you measure and round it down to an inch.
