Drawbar extension for A

Postby mcwinter » Wed Sep 04, 2019 3:15 pm

I would like to install a drawbar extension on my 39 A. The parts manual isn't clear whether the drawbar extension (part 66185D) fits the A drawbar. Does anyone know if this extension will work? Is it the same extension I have on my Cub shown in the attached photo? My Cub extension has a 4" distance between the mounting holes. The A is over 2 hours away so I can't quickly measure the distance between holes on it.

Thanks

Part 66185D fits an A. The extension in your picture is not 66185D. The '39 A drawbar has a center hole. There is a pair of holes 1 7/8 to each side of the center, making those holes 3 3/4 apart. There is another hole on each side, 3 3/4 out from the first pair of holes. A final pair is beyond them, 3 7/8 out and 1/4 forward. That is 7 holes total, each 13/16 diameter. Later tractors had one more pair of holes, 7 1/4 to each side of center.

66185D has a spacing of 3 3/4 across the 2 front holes and about 7 1/4 center to center front to back. There is an additional hole 4 inches in front of the rear hole. It is 11/16, the rest are 13/16.

I have a receiver hitch that’s sold to mount to the underside of a bumper but the mounting holes line up perfectly with the holes for both the Cub and SA drawbar. I have a variety of 2” ball mounts for moving my trailers. It holds it back about 1’ from the drawbar slowing me to jackknife the rig making tight turns without rubbing. It’s not IH purist equipment but it works.
