Farmall Cub

Do any of you use your A’s/130’s/140’s to make hay? I have 12 acres to put up this year and am going to try my 140 with a ground-driven side delivery rake. Too small for the haybine or baler, but out to pull the rake....

Me and a friend used his New Holland tc30 (24 pto hp) to run a new holland 68 baler and pull the wagon behind the baler for about 3 years. It worked just fine!

If your on flat ground and your tractor engine is strong, give it a try!

Saucymynx, Since you don't plan to use the baler and just pull the rake you should be fine using your 140. Here is Phil Lenke pulling a rake with his Cub.



By the way, are you in Tennessee or Michigan? If I remember right you once said Tennessee. Regardless, if you can make it to the Bash CubFest in Ohio this June we'd love to have you join us. We have several other women who enjoy spending time in the shop working on there Cubs.

I guess I shoulda added it should be able to cut, rake, AND bale those 12 acres (If) the baler is not too big!

I bet a cub would pull a New Holland 256 ground drive rake!

My point being that if a tractor would run a baler, then it will surely pull a hay rake!

using a cub here to hay rake, not fast but does a good job

small tractors with lpto can pull a baler on level ground. without lpto it might be a challenge but if the windrows are small enough it might work. I always had a SMD and later years the 560 to do hay with.

I looked at HP as well as tractor weight, I baled with a 790 JD for years and the baler threw that lil tractor around but it baled, the 140 is a heavier tractor, I think it would bale with my old new holland hayliner

I have used a ford 1920 to pull the JD 336 baler, it worked fine but you could kinda feel the tractor hesitate a second when the bale was made and being tied, di not like going uphill with it, forget about pulling a wagon at the same time

Thanks for all the great input! I think I will start out by just using the 140 to pull the rake. My land is a bit rolling so it might struggle with the baler going uphill. I will be using a John Deere 327. I have a couple other tractors that are more suitable. Barnyard, you do remember correctly. I did live in Tennessee. I moved to the upper Peninsula of Michigan in October. I’d love to make it down to the cub fest. I’ll have to see if I can’t make that happen

From what I see, just to get to Ohio from Michigan you Will have to travel through about three states. We would love to have you at the Bash, We have a couple of nice hotels in town as well as several electrical camper hook ups on site. We always have a welcoming campfire.
