Farmall A hydraulic pump

Postby LoganB » Wed Apr 28, 2021 9:19 pm

Is there a way to put a hydraulic pump on a farmall A, similar to the one on a farmall super A?

The most practical way to do it would be to put it on the PTO or the belt pulley drive. Of course, it won't be live power. An electric pump is another option. It depends on what you want to use it for.

I've seen a power steering pump mounted on the left side, to drive from the crankshaft pulley, I don't remember what was involved with the drive belt. If you have fabricating skills, something could be worked out.

I was going to suggest that. The "cleanest" setup might be one of the old generators with the power steering pump mounted to the back of it.

That would be nice but good luck finding one of those, I've tried before! If you find one, they're made of unobtanium, bring your wallet. The one that I knew of, used a Ford P.S. pump with the integral reservoir. It replaced the defunct exhaust lift.

I'm in the actual process of doing this myself. I just finished up an A that my dad had restored before he died, and I realized that he had replaced the torque tube with one from a SA, and had gotten a hydraulic reservoir and touch controls from a C. Obviously, the touch control is different on a C due to the light posts, but I ran into the issue of not having a location for a pump, as the block is still an A. So I found someone selling a belly mount sickle mower with a p/s pump homemade hydraulic lift setup, with the intent of using the pump to run the hydraulic rock shaft setup. Obviously have to fab up lines, but it obviously worked bbn enough to lift the mower, so crossing my fingers on it

I have a 130 with an IH1000 loader. I have thought about adding a second pump dedicated to the loader.
