Carb Type

Postby MarkAkerman » Mon Jul 19, 2021 3:27 pm

I have a 52 SA and an fairly new to working on them. My carb is pretty mucked up and leaking gas. The tractor runs fine. Can anyone tell what type of carb mine is without me removing it and cleaning it up? Trying to decide wether or not to put a new one on it or refurbish it.

I would certainly remove the carb and clean it up. Might require a new gasket. You can get a tuneup kit which you get a needle and seat etc.
Check for a leaky float. If it does not float it may have a hole in it.

Will I need to know the brand of my carb in order to order a carb tuneup kit or do they work for all types? Thanks

Yes you will need to know the brand AND model!

Probably easiest to remove the carb, look for the tag attached to it.

Find that and you should have the info you need

It’s hard to tell from the gunky photo but I’m pretty sure it’s a Zenith. It doesn’t look like a Carter and it’s not a Marvel Shebler.

I agree that it looks like a Zenith. According to the parts catalog, either a 67 or a 161. There may be a data plate attached to the top of the carb, but you will probably have to remove the carb to see. Also, you may not need to purchase an entire rebuild kit to get the leak stopped. Individual parts may be available from McDonald Carb & Ignition. Give Morgan a call. He can also help identify it.

Thank you everyone. I am a member of several forums for other "money pits" and the kindness and knowledge shared really shows how most people will help others. Sure beats watching the news. Good folks!
