After I've been driving the 100 on the road some I've noticed I have a fairly loud whine in 4th and a quiter whine in 3rd and 2nd. When I push the clutch in it goes away, or when I'm going down a hill. Is this normal? My 300 does this also in 5th.
Also the oil gauge just says OIL when running it never reads higher than the O. I have a 0-75psi guague but wasn't going to put that on till I repaint it. i'm assuming the gauge should go higher than the O, guessing it should go to the I or L like my Cub does correct? Previous owner used it to mow and drove it and not blowing blue smoke. Should I just put the new gauge on to check or what?
Is a whine normal and Oil gauge

Re: Is a whine normal and Oil gauge
They didn't whine when they were new, (well, maybe a little in fourth). But after years of gear wear, it isn't unusual.
The oil pressure for the A was listed as 50 to 60 pounds at 1,400 rpm. I assume the 100 is the same. Obviously, it will be less at lower speed. As long as it is out of the red, it should be good. I think the O is well above the red. You might try the new gauge just as a cross check.

Re: Is a whine normal and Oil gauge
What is causing the whine, is it bearings? Should I go ahead and replace them?
