Sirfive’s super A project.

Postby Sirfive » Fri Feb 18, 2022 2:41 pm

Weather got nice enough. Started to piddle with my super A project.
She’s proving to be stubborn. Of all my hoard of tools i dont have a thin wall 15/16 for the sparkplugs. As soon as i do, i’ll drip some marvel mystery oil down into the cylinders. May pull valve cover to lube the top end. Its been at least 10 years.

Had some nasty goop in the fuel filter bowl. Like 3 hour old jb weld mixed with oil. Fresh gas helped with cleanup, but i think i’ll pull the fuel tank so i can slosh and clean it.

Sorry, pics are too large. I can form the goop into a cube and it takes several minutes to flow flat, and the gas coming out is deep red and thicker than 30wt. Smells terrible.

Spark plugs should be 7/8, not 15/16.

Have you tried a standard 7/8?

My standard sets only go up to 13/16, and the impact sockets were too thick.

The plugs that are in it are 7/8”, thanks again, but are d18y instead of #15 or ac87 as described in the manual. These champions dont cross reference to those either.

I bought a 7/8 spark plug socket on EBay for mine. They are kind of hard to find. I use Autolite 3116 in my tractors. Everyone has a preference when it comes to plugs it seems. I run the non ethanol in my tractors and do not use any kind of additive.

I have used a 7/8" box end wrench.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

I have the same problem with deep sockets...I ground the impact socket down on the sides to fit the SC and it works great

Do pics only stick around for a few days? The pic in my introduction thread seems to have disappeared.

Anyhow, anyone know where to get a radiator or fuel tank cap?
I found a rad cap on ebay for an ‘A’, but it doesnt look like the cap thats on it.
