cork rubber

Postby jdeere86 » Thu Apr 21, 2022 1:16 pm

hey all -

140 was running for couple minutes or so with choke out and then would stall out-- last year basically ran it during the season with choke out most of the time. finally decided to take the carb off -- in doing so the previous gasket disintegrated. the bowl definitely had some crap in it and the bottom drain was clogged. sprayed carb cleaner in all jets and seem open now. gonna spray some air next and clean it out

question is have any of you used the "gasket material cork rubber" from NAPA -- do you just trace the outline of carb and then cut it out? kind of freaking out as i have to get this tractor running for the weekend so don't have time to order gasket from yesterdays tractors or somewhere else

or anyone know part # for the actual gasket from napa ,,advanced auto ..etc

you guys are a godsend

called napa and they have part #FPG 3046 "Gasket Material" chemically treated fibrous sheet --- maybe this will be better than the cork rubber...

considering it's only 8$ a sheet i'll probably spring for it though i am wondering if anyone thinks I could get by with "ram board' since i have some laying around which is kind of a thicker cereal box type material

any hints or tricks for tracing and cutting this gasket out ...looks a little intricate

Yes, trace it and cut it out with a very sharp utility or Exacto knife.

got some gasket material from autozone that was 1/16th thick and x acto knife ... oiled the mating surface then stamped on the material and cut out .. installed and no leaks --- still not running right though

my fuel shut off doesn't totally work so while i had the bowl off i had the float pushed up against the jet i guess it would be ...anyways once i let the floats back down the gas didnt flow so i had to push on the jet and then fuel came ... guessing that is my culprit? fuel fills the bowl up then float goes up against that inlet and when the floats go back down fuels not coming back out or not fast enough ...

now that i have the air cleaner off i can get at the top of the carb -- i'll remove that tomorrow and see if i can clean anything else that may be giving me a issue ... any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Do you have a Viton tipped float needle?

looks like it is that viton tipped -- not sure what kind of carb this is ...looks to say 'bend' on it --

nothing was as dirty inside as i was hoping haha reason i took it off was because it would stall out once put into gear or under load --- thinking it's fuel tank crud -- going to clean that out today and bite the bullet and take a ride into town and see if i can get some rubber fuel line with an inline filter

any other advice?

If you use an inline fuel filter, make sure it is compatible with a gravity flow fuel system.
The Viton tipped needle may be the source of your sticking float.

cleaned gas tank out good. Cleaned carb out good. Took a very fine grit sand paper i had laying around and rubbed the sides of the float needle. replaced the metal fuel line with a rubber one. couldn't find 5/16ths so went with what they had at the store. picked up an inline filter (didn't have a small one) -- didn't install it yet though. fired her up and drove around for a good 5 minutes or so and everything sounded good -- knock on wood.

Are you sure that inline filter is for "gravity feed" use, and not for something with a fuel pump?

i'm not sure -- just looked it up online and saw this "Note: Not for fuel injection systems or E85 Fuel" It's un opened so I may just return it to the store. Now that I have a rubber fuel line hooked up to the carb it's a whole lot easier to get that elbow off and check the inline screen.
