Gotta say the first, the "Lo-Boy" is very well done. First thing that hits me is that it looks like it could have been a factory made piece.
It has the A's grunt without having that high platform to boost yourself into.
The second is fun and cool but the first may actually be an improvement, at least for the needs of some of us. Sometimes after a day of climbing on and off the A my joints really feel it. If you don't farm with it, only towing, mowing, or pushing snow well lower is better.
I guess as the real Lo-Boy has a plow set up a plow mount setup could be modified so that this could do snow duty.
I'd have to go one step further on his build though and that's to install a lowered exhaust.

I really like the first one! Biggest objection to the stock tractor is getting on then off,so would like to address that issue - possibly centering the seat and relocating the clutch pedal to the left side. Can't say that I like the looks of the inverted finals, but it would be easier to crawl on and off.

I,ve only two acres and have an "H",the "A" and a Cub as well as a "WD" Allis with a loader.Don't really need another....

The second has an axle, left side from a B and a second seat added for his better half. Nice parade event tractor. Easy to get on too.

Perchance the axles will swap side to side? Maybe a smaller wheel [16" ? ] ,believe I've seen 16" with same center hole and bolt circle on other equipment. Would like to enlarge operator's station as I can't turn back the clock 40 years. Thinking centered seat with clutch pedal moved to left side.

may need a few gallons of penetrating oil...

Look up Hebard Shop Mule. They lowered the "A" to use as a factory tug. Brake linkage will be interesting.

The smaller wheel would gear down the tractor making its torque more effective. First would almost be a creeper gear and 4th gear sane.
4th is too high anyway.

Yes Sir, fourth is a bit fast. I've had this "A" about 10 years. Only once in 4th {rode to cousin's for coffee}

Enjoyed the video link.

Many Thanks for the interest guys.

Do a search for the Farmall W4 tractor. It is the same power plant as the A, in a "Wheatland" configuration instead of the "row crop" version that you're used to. It basically is the tractor that you're trying to build.

This is similar to what I was talking about:

Image

The one I saw, as I recall it had more of a rat rod patina, and some custom bracketry around the operator's platform.

That would be a McCormick W4. It is based on an H, not an A.

A "W4" with an "H" operators station would be nice but i find the W4 station uncomfortable. The "A" I find the handiest of the ones I own - just want something easier to get on then off.

Jim,
Thanks for the correction. I guess that I've never gotten to look that close and always just thought the W4 was an A, the W6 was an H, and the W9 was an M. I need to do some more research as there's a W9 near me for sale and it looks interesting, however, my biggest concern is that it's way too heavy for me to haul which becomes a problem. Anyway, the A low-boy should be an interesting project.

Everything 4-series is H based (W-4, O-4, OS-4, I-4, U-4). 6-series is M based. It includes crawlers and Diesels. The 9-series was larger than any letter series Farmall. It included rice versions but no orchard models.

A bare W-9 is about 5,600 pounds.

Jim that shop mule is pretty nice!
Bet it's weight and compactness helps it plow snow well. One thing though is that hand lift on the right side used for the blade?
I've seen them used for mower height adjustment which is fine, set it and go. To use it for a blade you'd need gorilla arms or I'd see your lower back taking a real beating raising and lowering the blade.

The blade is a real handful. The whole mount is homemade. Whoever did it could have easily put a helper spring on the left side, but didn't.
