Brazed up the bearing seal cage plate yesterday. Threw it in the ashes in the wood stove for a slow cool down. Got it set up in the lathe as close as I could and machined it smooth. I had a few voids where I didn't get enough brass but I am not going to worry about it. A little paint and it will be ready to assemble.

Re: Acquired a Farmall 230
Been putting in fences to get the cows out on pasture and now that is done. Spent some time the last few days cleaning bolts and gasket surfaces so I can start putting this project together. Painted the bolts and the front of the engine which will be mostly covered after assembly.

Cleaned up more bolts this afternoon. These are for the governor, front pedestal and wheels. Had to sandblast the wheel bolts to get the rust off all of the others got a sonic cleaning, vibratory tumbler, and treated with Ospho.

Almost forgot about these parts that I had set on a shelf waiting for paint.

Bolted a few pieces on today. I need to install the crank pulley before tightening the timing cover bolts.

Found a few more parts that need painting. Got paint on all but the fan shroud today.

Re: Acquired a Farmall 230
After rain this morning we got a short sunny break so I shot some red on the fan shroud. Then installed the lower steering bolster seal, Speedi-Sleeve on the crank pulley, and the thermostat housing.

Re: Acquired a Farmall 230
Found enough pieces to make up a pulley installer. It consists of 1/2 all-thread, several alignment bushings, an old kingpin bearing for a thrust bearing, a long 1/2 nut, and a heavy steel plate. The manual says to heat the pulley before installing. I'll probably use my heat gun for that. I also put some rtv on the timing cover gasket on the block side and snugged everything down. That should hold the gasket in place while I seal the timing cover side just before the pulley install. Its supposed to rain all day tomorrow so this would be a good inside job to work on.

Be sure to leave the bolts in the cover loose until after the pulley is in place. That way the seal can center itself over the pulley.

That was my plan but thanks for the reminder. Wouldn't be the first time I got the cart before the horse.
