Chipper shredder
I was wondering if anyone here runs a chipper shredder off there PTOs? I have a 49 C with over bored pistons and a 3 point hitch. I am looking at a Mighty Mac chipper that is for sale locally and am wondering how well it would work on my C?

Re: Chipper shredder
You should be able to find a horsepower requirement for the size of the chipper you're looking at.

Re: Chipper shredder
Oh, I am sure I have enough horse power. The chipper seems to be rated for a 10 to 30 horse power tractor 540 PTO 1 3/8 spline (that is the spline size on a C? I can't remember) These are always shown on a newer compact tractor. I really don't see why it wouldn't work on a C, just wondered if anyone has any experience or insights.

Re: Chipper shredder
I'm not familiar with that chipper but the ones I've seen usually run on their own power and seems to me they're in the 30 hp range. Anyway the C has a 1 3/8" PTO, runs the same direction and about the same speed as the modern ones. Good luck with that and would like to know how it does.

If the price is within reason you can always resell it if it is not satisfactory.

Re: Chipper shredder
I wouldn't worry much about the horsepower. You may have to feed it slower or limit the sizes of branches it eats. It takes a lot of torque to run a chipper. If the chipper has an onboard flywheel, then the additional torque provided by the 2nd flywheel will keep the chipper turning when it hits a big hard knot.
Edit: Below
The PTO based Mighty Mac Chipper Shredder lists 15-40HP input requirements. The C falls within this range. Should be great!
