New to me Super C

Postby cdd » Thu Mar 26, 2020 8:57 pm

Picked this up the other day. It is a 53 based off the SN

Couple of Questions
1. Why would there be oil coming from the coil when it is running? There is no where else it could be coming from and dripping off the coil
2. I think I have a possible touch control leak. The reservoir is empty or close to, I did not pull the drain plug stuck my finger in the fill plug and felt nothing. I did drain the oil and got about 6.5 qts from it, very thin and not dark more of a light brown. Am i on the right track? Hate to fill that up with hydro oil only to have it end up in my oil and have to change both,
3. To rebuild does it need to come off the tractor?
4. Added three quarts of 80wt to transmission, It did not come out the plug on the side to show full but when I took that plug off it is pretty gunky in there. should i add diesel to it till it is full and drive around to clean it out and then drain and refill?
5. How can I post a video? I have a sound that i need help identifying

Nice looking SC. On posting a video, if you have a youtube account, place it there and then link to it from here. If you don't have a youtube account, it's free to set one up.

Since this tractor is new to you, it would be a good idea to start with fresh fluids. You just never know when it was done last. Out with the old, flush if needed, and in with the new.

Ignition coils are oil filled. Leaking oil, faulty/bad coil.

Are you sure the oil is coming from the coil and not from the valve cover gasket or some place else? Double check before purchasing a replacement coil.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Yeah I looked for that. I did read online that when a coil starts to go bad it can leak oil. It happened on my Intl 1210 flatbed also. strangest thing I had seen

I had a coil on my Super A fail catastrophically. Blew oil everywhere.

I had a brand spankin new Tisco coil leak oil all over the inside of it's un-opened blister pack. So, it does happen. If it's an old coil, it may have a rust pin hole, I see that occasionally. The coil may continue working, normally, until it's lost enough oil to overheat and fail.

On the touch control leak question- possible you have a leak. 6.5 qts out of oil pan is too much but we don’t know whether from leak or overfilling. Possible overfill since you say it’s brown color. Leak from touch control makes it black and thin, unless they used oil in the touch control. You can fill it up and run it for a while and see. If it is leaking into oil, need to rebuild pump

If you do need to rebuild the Touch Control pump, it's virtually the same as a Cub pump. So the how-to's on here will be a help.

Not if your unit is lifting fine and there are no leaks in the hydraulic body. If hydraulic oil is getting into your engine oil, that happens at the hydraulic pump. The gear that drives the pump is in the crankcase and a oring or seal keeps the hydraulic fluid from leaking into the crankcase

You likely only need to replace the shaft seal.

So it's a Cessna pump. Are there kits available or just have to find each part individually?
Would the parts list posted above work?
