Super C Carb

Postby ajhbike » Sun Nov 26, 2017 6:55 pm

When I got her, she had this odd looking carb....Moraine, Dayton,OH. Obviously this isn't a normal go to replacement carb since I haven't heard anyone mention the name. 3/8" inlet and a 3/8" copper fuel line....which caused problems when I changed the fuel sediment bowl at 5/16. Since I was going to convert the copper line to brake line... I went to a bunch of places (Napa, Autozone, TSC) and could not get fittings for either end to work and ended up putting on a rubber fu(Nel line for now. Killed half a day

Moraine makes, made brass, fuel filters for carburetors. Guessing that round brass piece is a fuel filter.

Not a clue. Appears the carburetor is due for a service.

I would clean up and service the carburetor. See what that round brass thing on the side is. Guessing, once cleaned up, it should be a common carb.

http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/ I have used the carburetor shop on several occasions to purchase off the wall carb kits. They also have carb identification.

That is one area that I have not ventured into...carburetors. It runs so nice that I am torn between taking it off for an outside clean or leaving it alone. I have read enough threads here to understand the function and the parts....matter of fact I believe you cured my loboy issue by explaining the jet function and cleaning which I have done a few times on both cubs...but I am a bit afraid of messing up when the engine runs well. I understand the cubs more and I have only had this SC for less than 2 months. Maybe I should clean it up to ID the carb. Recommend a cleaner to take the grime off?

Spray carburetor cleaner or brake cleaner. Good ventilation.

I&T manual or internet search will list the carburetor(s) originally installed on the tractor.

If the tractor runs fine, leave things alone. The carburetors on old tractors are simple, easy to work on.

Edit: Found my I&T manual IH-8. Super C section. Carter carbs - UT771SA, 733S, or SA. Zenith - 67X7.
I have an excuse. CRS.

A better photo might help with the ID.

You think a little Simple Green or something like it to clean up the outside is okay or will it screw up seals and gaskets?

Looks like a Carter to me. Carters and Zeniths look similar.

If the tractor is running good, I wouldn't worry about what the outside of it looks like. They can be covered with grime on the outside and work fine for years.

Regular spray carb cleaner and an old toothbrush should clean up the outside. The cheap stuff at Walmart will do.
