Another farmall

Postby Saucymynx » Mon Sep 27, 2021 8:50 pm

When I joined this forum a couple years ago I had my heart set on a super A and ended up with a wonderful 140 that pulled two bottom plow and a 5 foot disc. Times changed and I picked up some land with, of course, room for more tractors. I have several other colored tractors but my new favorite is my 1970 farmall 656. It is a beast! The hood is taller than I am. It is gas and everything works, including the torque amplifier. Everything but the lights, but that’s an easy fix. I have even put it to work raking and bailing hay. What amazes me is that it runs its best at about 1200 RPM. I’m going to put my 7 foot rear blade on it for the winter, and it will also be back up for the snowblower if the big tractor goes down. I still love my 140 and will use it for the light snow with the back blade. It’s off at the shop now getting the tires loaded. Got a love those farmall’s!

UP Snow? I think this is the preferred tool.

Now that’s funny! I actually saw one parked on the tracks down in Escanaba

Very nice looking 656! It must have been well-cared-for by the previous owner.

It was well-cared for. She runs great and the sheet metal is straight. I do have to rewire the lights, but I just got the harness from Porch. The bigger project will be the 1948 gmc 1.5 ton truck I just picked up with no brakes!

I see you are in Oxford - we used the pick up feed for our 4H sheep in Oxford when I was a kid - I grew up in Clarkston

Gonna need those lights soon! Daylight Savings Time is ending on Nov7th.

Oxford and Clarkston have become more populous over the last few decades - mostly just outside the city limits. Unfortunately, very few new stores have been built to support the population growth. A lot of business buildings were torn down within the city limits and rebuilt outside the city.
Dafoe's Feed store (been around forever) on the north end of town is still kicking.
