IH 504 Hi-Clear

Postby ajhbike » Tue Jun 25, 2019 6:15 am

I was reading the manual to determine how to check hydraulic/transmission oil because i had a minor weeping hose fitting for the 2000 loader. I found that it is behind the clutch pedal, under the floor pan and it is a small bolt that is in the center of about a 1" plug bolt. So I pulled the small bolt and it gushed out....had a 5 gal pan so no problem there. Then it got full and i had to get a 5 gal bucket. I filled that one too and another gallon on top of that. Unless I did something wrong or pulled the wrong plug????... I rechecked the manual and from the description (lube point picture is only of the right side of tractor) am pretty sure I did it right.

The guy I bought it from must have over filled it horribly.I remember asking him if he checked it and he said yes...a guy told him to pull the fill plug and fill it until you can easily touch oil with your finger.

I just want to confirm I used the right fill plug and i am wondering if that much extra oil damaged anything?

My luck, it probably won't run as well.......

I'm not familiar with the 504, but if you have the 504's Owner's Manual and that's where it states to check it, then I'd say you were right. But it seems odd that so much more oil was in there (overfilled). Was the Manual clear about the location of the plug? Are there any other plugs in that area that you could have confused it with?

Maybe some others who know will chime in soon.

not that I could see. It is the only thing over there that looks like it should be the fill plug. There is a drain plug on the very bottom facing down...and this fill plug is about 4" up the torque tube and points to the side. I guess I could open the drain and see if another 10 gallons comes out

Anybody got a 504 that can help me on the exact location of the fill plug? The darn manual shows only a picture of the right side of the tractor for lube points and it just says it is on the left side
