Bought another H

Postby Rodney51Cub » Mon Mar 19, 2018 7:05 pm

A 1944 H that I did not need but could not pass up. It is still 6 volts. It is suppose to have transmission problems, jumps out of second gear. I have been in a couple of other H transmissions so this will not be new to me. Took the hood off to look at steering linkage wear. Paint is kind of rough. Will have to clean tank and carb. Motor is free. PO said it does run but has not been run in about a year. Will have to get a draw bar after I get it running.

While I love my Cub, the H model was the first Farmall I knew and the one I grew up on. Love the H. Good luck with your "new" H model!

After several months of other projects finally got to the transmission on this H. Only broke one bolt getting the transmission cover off. Had to drill out the front trans drain plug and the belly pump drain plug. They were both very stuck. Four bearings, 5 seals and 5 gaskets later it is going back together. Still have to replace seal on belly pump input shaft and clutch throw out bearing. Wiring and steering can be worked on next. As long as the wood stove can keep me warm I should have this running by spring.

Looks like you enough tractors around to keep you busy. I hope to be getting a Farmall H soon. I'm trading my labor on my cousins 340 for the H.

Finally got the 44 H going.
Have to flush cooling system and retorque the head.
Had it running earlier this year but had a lot of blow by.
Ended up replacing all four pistons and sleeves due to low compression in #3, pitting in #4 and something banging around in #1.
