Grease or Gear Oil for Worm/Sector gear
If the worm/sector gear housing doesn't leak is there any reason why I shouldn't use gear oil instead of grease? When I pulled the old gear there was grease in it, but I've put some 90wt gear oil in it just to see if there is any leaks and doesn't appear to be any.

Re: Grease or Gear Oil for Worm/Sector gear
I have about the same situation. I checked a steering gear and found it partly full of grease. I topped it off with oil, expecting it to start leaking out. It hasn't leaked yet. I don't know if existing grease is keeping the oil in, and if so how long it will hold. Time will tell.
As long as it will stay in, oil is a better steering gear lubricant than thicker grease. It has a better chance of reaching the upper bushing. I consider use of grease to be a band-aid.

Yeah kind of what I was thinking to. DId a google search and topic is posted on other websites. A lot of people talk about using JD corn head grease. Thin I'll use the 90wt oil and see how it does.
