Pulled some pieces off of the H in preparation for some sandblasting. I figure with it already torn down this far I should at least clean it up. I used some heat to loosen up the clamps on both the wheel and center casting to axle. I need to pull the rear centers to get the wheel weights off.

Wow! Torn down that far, I'd have a really hard time not painting it.

Pulled the wheels off to get at the wheel weights which are now mounted on our Super C in prep for some plowing.

I have 3 of them. We had a big storm a year ago and I had my 10 x 17 break free of the screw stakes, picked up complete, sail over the RV and basketball hoop and end up on its back at the far end of the yard. One side of the 45 degree sweeps were a little crimped, a couple of tears but all in one piece. Put 2 x 4 skiis on the legs and towed it back in place with the cub....still using it today.

They do get awfully hot on a hot day so if you can get one with a door on each end that would be good.

Mounted the Farmall H engine on the stand. I had to make another pair of short mounting arms for the HF engine stand to get it on there. I got lucky and found enough scrap to make them out of.

I rolled the block over today to take a look inside. It was a lot cleaner than I figured it would be, though there is a little grit on the flange where the pan bolts up. I'm still going to pull it down for a thorough cleaning just to be safe. The block had been all painted inside and the cam is covered in some sort of grease so it didn't rust. The upper bores do have a lot of grit and some light surface rust in a few spots on the sleeves. It should be a pretty easy cleanup from here.

Pulled most of the engine down today. Just need to get the lifters and main bearing half shells out and then start the cleanup. The crank still looks great and it has been reground to .010 under Mains and .020 under rods and the front pulley has a seal saver installed. I found the #1 and #4 rods were in the wrong holes so that will be corrected upon assembly. Also noticed the connecting rod bolt lock tab washers are all missing. I suppose I should bite the bullet and get a set of them though they want $5.50 a piece for them.

I am in process putting new sleeves and pistons in my 44 H project. I had it running and driving but # 3 cylinder had only 90 lbs compression while the other three were above 125. I need two of those lock tab washers. They should be in at the dealer tomorrow so I can continue putting the engine back together.

Are those lock tab washers cheaper at the dealer? I have checked Yesterdays tractor and steiners and they are $5.50 each and up.

Don't forget, it'll be $5.50/ea plus shipping. I'd definitely call your local dealer to make sure. Even call your local John Deere or New Holland dealer, they may have exactly what you're looking for.
