Figured I’d ask one more to anyone out there who has spent some time messing with these tractors. I was going to replace a seal on the rear axle, losing some hydraulic fluid, slow drip.
Has anyone done this? Is the seal accessible once removing the wheel, or is it located deeper into, toward the center of the axle?
Any info would be appreciated. 1955-56 IH 300 utility.
Thanks.

Re: Rear diff/axle
I don't know. But from the exploded view in the parts catalog, it appears that you need to remove the wheel, then the hub from the axle. You remove the cap with 4 bolts at the end of the axle housing to get at the seal. I assume the hub is pressed on and requires a huge puller to remove it.
