New Arrival!
I have acquired a 1948 Farmall H. It's a non runner but is loose and has commpression. The transmission won't go into gear though. I drained it and I got rusty water. Any Ideas?

Re: New Arrival!
Congrats!...I don't have an H (I have a SC) but I believe they all have access to the shift forks underfoot. Do what I do...try some YouTubes or a Service Manual and just take off the top plates to see and learn!

Re: New Arrival!
Thanks!, I will try that. I have added diesel fuel to it and have let it sit for a few days. I have made progress on it like spark and the carburetor. Has anyone have or had a fairbanks morse magneto on there H?

Re: New Arrival!
My H came to me with an "American Bosch" magneto on it. Ran fine, but I replaced it with an IH "H4" magneto when I got the chance.

Re: New Arrival!
Not on our H but 1 of our F-12’s had a Fairbanks mag. Our H had the Delco Remy battery ignition conversion.

Re: New Arrival!
What do you mean "it won't go into gear" ? Does the shifter flop around or not move at all ? Is it grinding with the clutch pressed ? There is a H parts manual in the PDF manuals section. Where the shifter goes into the transmission cover there are two plugs that can be removed to remove the pin that holds the shifter in the cover. Remove the shifter and see if the the shift forks are in line in the center of the hole and if the end of the shifter is worn. Attached picture is approximately what a good shifter should look like.
