new farmall b just purchased .
the magneto has been disabled and a coil replaced in stead and the tractor converted to 12 volts with an alternator added ...
is it worth restoring it back to magneto or keep with the 12 volt system ??
what is the thinking out there ???
its a nice rust free machine

Lots of opinions on here about original 6V versus 12V and then, throw in the magneto angle for a twist.
I have two Cubs, a '47, '48 and a '42 AV. All 6V with magneto. I can start any of them with a hand crank and no battery if I have to. They also have starters and good, running batteries, which is my preferred way to start them (not by the crank). I'm not advocating 6V systems. Converting and using a 12V is good too.

My opinion. I would keep the 12 volt and the external magnato coil.
Lot of reasons: 12 volt powered implements such as sprayer, water pump, seeder. Jump starting wife's car, etc..

The question is, what do you want? If your plan is to use the tractor, reliability should be the priority. If, one the other hand, your plan is to have a show piece, originality may be your angle. Most everyone, on this forum, has an opinion but it’s your tractor and you should create it the way you want it to be.
