Flywheel woes

Couple ideas, one is to put the flywheel in a freezer, that will shrink it to the point not as much heat is required. Rather than heating original ring gear to remove, use a .046 cutoff wheel in a hand grinder to cut almost through it in a a couple places not too far apart. Once that is done, usually a chisel in one of the cuts, or a punch on the side will frequently finish it. be careful not to cut into the flywheel, and wear safety glasses.

Could be wrong, but as I recall their may be a small flange on the flywheel that the ring gear needs to go over. Try not to knock the flange off while removing the old gear.

Dale has a splitting stand for a Super A, can anyone tell me if the holes on an A is the same as a B? I would think so, but I'm not sure.

Forward holes in the bell housing? A and B are the same. Super A, they are reversed. It may switch side-to-side to move from Super A to A or B.

On a somewhat related note, hand cranking this B without the starter. I hear a lot of horror stories, and a lot this is how you do it type stories. I ran across this video and wanted to get other's opinion and experiences with hand cranking.

Of course, I want to fix the flywheel so I can just hit the starter thingy, but in the meantime.....

As several other people commented after seeing that video, he demonstrated it with his thumb on the wrong side of the crank. An otherwise minor kickback and he would not have been gesturing a thumbs up at the end.

As I suggested back on page 1, until you fix the ring gear, you can use the crank to turn the engine a little bit, then take the crank out and start it with the starter.
