2nd steering wheel
I have bought the parts for installing a 2nd steering column, wheel and seat so my grandson can ride alongside me. Does anyone have pictures that you can share that shows me how to put everything on? Example would be that I bought the foot plate and rest but it fits the right side. I can't figure out how to attach the foot plate on left because it is made for the right side? Also, I bought a steering column, steering wheel and the necessary parts to install it but can't figure out how to attach it.Finally, how do I attach the end of the steering rod on the left since there isn't a gearbox? I love this "B" and can't wait for my grandson to ride with me.
Any pictures and help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Rod

Re: 2nd steering wheel
Rod, I don't have a B but looked at one that was being parted. As far as the platform, you'll have to cut the back corners to clear the tranny and rear final as those corners aren't symmetrical. I think the right and left axle housings are the same, so there may already be the bolt holes on it to attach the platform. As far as the steering wheel, you'll probably need to fab a bracket for the front end with a bearing or pillow block to allow the steering wheel to turn easily. There is another forum member who will be doing a second platform and seat, but he's not started on it yet.
Edit: If you google two seat Farmall B, there are several pictures that show where the second steering wheel is attached.

Rod,
I don't know if you're a member of Facebook or not, but there is a facebook group dedicated to the B and BN that has a lot of posts, images, etc., on a second seat, some with steering wheels. Maybe check it out:

The axle housings are cast the same, not a left and right.
Sooooo......
On the left side axle housing the platform mounting holes are on the back (wrong side)!
I never really saw one up close to see what they actually did for mounting the platform to the axle housing!

Re: 2nd steering wheel
The holes for mounting the seat bracket are OK where they are. I suppose they just bolt both sides of the platform and let the rear rest on the edge of the axle housing. I think the support would be close enough, just no bolt holes. You could probably drill/tap some holes if you thought it was important and could figure out how to drill diagonally into the surface you are drilling.

Re: 2nd steering wheel
Be interesting how they put the platform on.
Dont forget the step cast into the axle housing for the platform!
Unless the casting has enough "meat" to it and someone machines the step and drill & tap the holes!
