'45 BN...exhaust manifold (flapper valve?)
This exhaust manifold has a flapper valve(?)...not sure about the correct terminology there.
I haven't seen it in any online parts search or even the parts catalog posted here. The only thing I come across is the one with a threaded opening. This one sure looks like 1 piece except for the top of the valve.
Was this an option?...Aftermarket, added later maybe?
A pipe was booger welded to the top at some point. I'm not sure what would be worse...trying to remove the manifold or to re-weld a piece back on.

That is the pressure valve for a Pneumatic Lift-All, or at least the remains of one. It is in the A and B Parts Catalog in the attachments section.

Thanks for the info.
Might try to cut it off & weld a piece on then.

Re: '45 BN...exhaust manifold (flapper valve?)
Does it unscrew off of the main manifold?
Looks that way in the A&B parts book in the pdf manuals section, IH page 146, pdf page 152!
You might just heat up that collar and unscrew it.
Then you could screw a piece of pipe in the manifold like normal to attach your muffler to!

Yes, they are screwed in. Usually the rust is so bad there isn't much chance of getting them out.

I ended up cutting it just above the collar & grinded it nice & flat. It was so rusty that I couldn't tell if it was screwed on no matter how much I tried to clean it. Though after cutting, it looks like it was. May try to get the threaded piece out...or just weld on the 8" pipe(just ordered one) to attach the muffler.
Thanks.

Yeah, it was definitely rusted into 1 piece.

I would have slowly heated that collar area of the manifold with a acetylene torch until it was red, then let it air cool on its own.
Then came back later and try to unscrew the valve.
Had to do that to a Cub manifold before!

Someday when I get bigger I'll get me a torch set.
Been learning a lot about the ol' BN though...Kind of getting attached.
Thanks

I have a bn too! With the same exhaust valve, but I have not messed with mine in a few years!

Despite it being my 2nd ever welding job, I think it may hold.

Looks good. I probably would have brazed it, but then I realized you aren’t big enough for a torch

Someday
An amateur with a torch could be dangerous. Plus, I messed up the muffler thinking engine enamel would be a good idea.
Oh well.

Re: '45 BN...exhaust manifold (flapper valve?)
Amateur hour question:
New muffler came with a primer like finish. Is it best kept that way or should it, could it be sprayed?
I had the bright idea of using silver engine enamel but it bubbled up in spots.

Re: '45 BN...exhaust manifold (flapper valve?)
Generally, they come painted with high temp paint. Engine enamel is not high temp. If you must paint it, use a high temp paint, such as VHT. There are also some high temp manifold paints available from Eastwood Co. or your favorite restoration supply house. They're not cheap but they are pretty good.
