Hey guys,
I'm making some good progress on the M, and have started reassembling everything. Can someone tell me what the single bolt is for on top of the hood, near the gauges? Also, what are the 2 bolt holes for in the grill, about mid way up? I'm thinking those were part of the row marker attachments for planters, or something like that.
Also, there is a bracket, under the gas tank, straight out to the left side, bent down towards the belt pulley drive on the right side, with holes in each end. Any idea what that one is for?
Lastly, it looks to me like the rear light is to be mounted to the top of the transmission case on the left side, and I think I have a bracket there for it. Did the wiring run just under the transmission lip on the left side, over the brake drum, then up behind the dash? Was there a tube/conduit for the wire, or was it just in a braided cover?
I'm not necessarily looking to make it 100% factory correct, so I'd like to hear anything that you've done that works better.
Thanks!
Bill

Re: Hood Bolts?
1) If I am thinking of the same one, that bolt is to help hold the hood. It was added during production, I think to reduce vibration. It should have a special washer, like a flat washer but curved to fit the shape of the hood. It used a wing nut.
2) Two holes for strut rods that helped support cultivator frames and the like. Like this:

3) I can't picture that bracket, maybe you could supply one.
4) Light and wiring is as you thought. Wire runs under lip, in a braided cover, held by clips. One clip on the lip near the rear, another on a brake cover bolt.

Jim,
Thanks!
Here are pictures of the left and right side of the bracket I'm asking about. It certainly looks like it was designed for something specific.
Thanks again!

Re: Hood Bolts?
I believe the right side is a support for the shutter control rod and the left side guides the choke rod.

Re: Hood Bolts?
Ok, those all make sense. I forgot about the choke rod. Mine was so bent up that I just threw it aside and am planning to make a new one.
The wiring harness mount is pretty funny... there's only 2 wires going to the front of the tractor, but yea, I guess there isn't really anything to attach it to underneath the gas tank. I'm planning to use those metal/black rubber cable holders and mount one under the gas tank bolt just above that bracket on the right side, just to keep the wires up tighter to the gas tank.
I'm really liking working on this tractor. It's even easier to work on than a Cub, just because everything is so big and there's so much space. I know I haven't really tore into too much, but everything has been really easy to handle. I'm getting excited now because I'm starting to put everything back together, however, February is crazy busy for me and I'm out of town 3 of the 4 weekends. So, I doubt I'll get to much next month.
Thanks again for all the help!

Re: Hood Bolts?
Yeah, they put one clip for the harness on the side of the rear tank support and another on the front support, near the bracket we were just talking about. But there isn't anything in between to attach another too, unless you want to drill a hole in the tank .
