Kohler Carburetor Seat Removal/Install

Postby AL Farmall Boy » Wed Oct 19, 2022 10:43 am

What have ya'll found to be the best way to remove and install a carburetor seat into the carb body on the Kohler K-series carbs? It is such a tight fit, you can't get a standard 1/4" drive socket or an open end wrench in there. I magically got the old one removed but want to make sure I get the new one in there tight without damage. It is a 3/8" hex size.

Have you tried a thin wall socket?

Thinnest socket I have is a 1/4" drive Sears Craftsman set. Not going to grind that down.

I grabbed a no name 1/4" drive socket from my grandsons collection of "play" tools that my wife bought at a garage sale for next to nothing. I was checking to see how much I needed to grind off and discovered, nothing, it fit. Don't know if the 1/4" drive, being cheap, or a combination, was why it fit. Anyway, I've used it several times.
Good luck,
David

I have used nut drivers for that in the past. Sometimes pawn shops are a good source for odd sockets that may be thinner. 1/4” drive deep well sockets sometimes are thinner on the end.
