Just got my first cub cadet! No info re: year or model, with a blade and chains!
First question (of many I’m sure) will it fit into the back of a short bed pickup?? Dodge Dakota! I’m sure there will be more when I get it home!!

Whether it will fit or not depends on the model. Many of the early ones are 69" long, so it should fit. What is the serial number? That should help identify the model.

Dusty, you may have to remove the deck to fit between your Dak’s wheel wells.

No deck just a blade which I’m sure will have to come off! Appears to be an early model so should fit then, F cub is a 70 model with partial cultivated frame.. A Facebook bargain?..?

should fit. IF the wheel weights will clear! Weights on the 147 stick out several inches on each side!

No guru---just own a 147 hydro. Long time ago I had an 80 hydro, 8 hp vertical crank B & S motor, that came with 36" mower, 44" blade, and 36" snowblower.
the hydro went out,--they wanted $650. for parts back then so I junked the 80.
I modified the blade to work on the 147 and always wanted to convert the blower to fit as well but in the meantime got this mtd 10 hp thingy and never looked back.
The 147 is a real bulldozer with tire chains on it. Does great without them til you get on ice! lol!

Now the questions start! Cadet 1100, Onan engine, manual transmission! (locked up w/ice of corse!) Where do I start? Give me the good, bad, and the ugly! LOL! All new to me - anything special to check first? Supposedly was used last year to plow snow! seeing the area around the shed would have been like emptying a bathtub with a teaspoon !!!

Park in moderately warm area, 45 - 50 degrees F. Remove the transmission drain plug, if there is one. If not remove the plate on the rear of the differential. Drain pan to catch fluid.

Can't move inside or to a warm area. Place trouble light under the transmission. Cover tractor with tarp.

If you have magnetic block heaters, place one on the side of the transmission.

1100 SHOULD have come with B & S 11 hp motor---yours has been changed in its lifetime. 1100 is an orphan and most guys say that model was a disgrace to IH! lol! ( probably no worse than some of their other models! like the 80!) Anyway it has that light luni transmission housing that will break easily, and dont have much weight in the rear end. Regular cadet models have cast iron! ---built like a tank!
Like all machines,-- use it with care knowing its limits and you will be fine with it. I would like to have the 4 speed in my 147 but no can do! --- its hydro and after all these years still runnin strong!

just curious - did any of the 1100 series come originally with the Onan engine?? Which as near as I can find out is a 19 HP unit! Haven't dug deep enough yet (too cold!) to determine if it is 2 cyl or not. That would give it twice as much HP as the original 1 cyl, 9 HP B&S!!

None came with anything but the B & S 11 hp motor. Its the only model IH put B & S motors in at the factory. All the other models had Kohlers at that time. Down the road owners started putting whatever they could get their hands on in them.

Unfortunately, as Sonny says, the 1100 was not a very good or popular CC model. The frame and sheet metal are the same as any of the 1000 series, however, the motor drove the transmission by a belt, and the transmission was a Peerless, aluminum case so it was really light weight. The 1100 was marketed as an "entry level" machine and produced by IH to compete with Murray, Craftsman, etc., and others that had "garden tractors" but all were the Briggs/Belt drive setup. It was just a cost/point machine to get folks in the door at CC dealerships.

If yours was swapped to an Onan engine, it was swapped in by someone at some time. I wonder if they swapped in a standard CC, cast iron rear end too? It would be easy to tell, if yours has the small shifter with round knob, and the shift pattern is left/right, then it's the Peerless transaxle. If it has the IH style long shifter with the triangle shaped rubber knob, and the up/down shift pattern, then its been swapped to a standard IH cast iron transmission like a Cub has.

If yours is locked up, and it's the peerless transaxle, it would be easy to drop in the drivetrain from any IH built Cub Cadet, gear drive unit, but you'll need everything, including the clutch pedal, all the linkages, engine, transmission, tunnel cover, etc. Probably better off at that point just to build the donor tractor instead of the 1100. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
