Ignition switch question

Postby tinnerjohn » Sun Feb 26, 2023 4:02 pm

Its been a while since I've had to troubleshoot tractor electrical, can someone tell me I'm right or wrong. I'm replacing the ignition switch on my CC122 with a new one from NAPA. I checked for continuity between the battery run terminals and don't have it. There is continuity between battery and start however, but with everything hooked up it won't crank. I just want to doublecheck myself before I take the switch bac k and make a fool of myself.
The key broke off in the old switch started this ordeal, everything else is good.
Thanks, John

Switch installed. Check for voltage in to and out of the solenoid with switch held in the start position.

Switch sounds good. Should be continuity between the battery and run position and the battery and start/run position.

If you can remove the old key you can purchase anther one at the auto parts store. That is if the switch is original to the tractor.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I only have continuity in the start position. Thats why I'm thinking the new switch is bad. The key broke off to far inside to get it out, that was my first thought. The new one is a low cost universal, less than 20 bucks, I think I'll spend little more and order one from TM. Thanks for your help, sometimes CRS kicks in and then I start second guessing myself!

First, I would check, to make sure you have it wired up properly. You don’t generally find a switch that is defective right out of the box. Make sure your 12v. from the battery is on the correct post. I don’t think you’ll find CC parts at T M.

The 60736-C2 switch is correct for a CC 122.

Thanks for the replies. Hope to be able to check it further today before the rain starts. Its in the blue sky machine shed and the roof leaks bad when it rains or snows.

Got the new switch from TM yesterday. After turning myself inside out and sideways to install it she fired right up. I didn't check the old switch but was afraid the grandson's had broke it off in the run position and fried the points, but we dodged that bullet.
