301 is a 12HP, That does not mean that the engine has not been changed out. I have seen 16 HP engines shoe-horned in them.
Got to love it, 16 Horses and a great gear drive tranny to run them through.
As I say on the Cub Cadet page,
Gears rule, Hydro's drool!!

That is a 12 hp, and if the tractor is a gear drive it is a 1200. If it is a hydroststic drive, it is a 1250. That is provided the engine has not been switched from a 10hp to a 12hp at some point. The "kind" codes are still a bit in question on some of the Q/L's (Quiteline's as these model's of tractors were called by IH). The biggest problem with the Q/L's is the breakdown of the rubber engine mounts (called ISO mounts), and the flex center of the clutch disc, on the gear drives, cracking or breaking. That is usually caused by the ISO mounts and/or wear of the front of the driveshaft and or pilot bearing.

Paul,
That’s what this tractor did two years ago. The center of the clutch pressure plate cracked and the rubber engine mounts were broken apart.
I blamed it on the kids “hot- rodding†it when cutting the grass.
Thanks again

They could have helped, but in all fairness to them, the clutch is a very common problem (and expensive to repair) in the 800, 1000, 1200. The ISO mounts are a problem in all of them. 800, 1000, 1200, 1250, 1450, 1650. The least expensive fix for the ISO mounts is to use a set of Moog, auto swaybar bushings, but I will have to find the part number. Less than half the price, and works as good or better than the new replacement ISO's.

Jack I am not Ted but I looked the Moog kit number up for you off one of the other forums. They show Moog K-5252 available at Carquest and NAPA.
I do not own a wide frame much less one with iso mounts but these kits are said to be as good or better and much less in cost. Ralph

Fix it right and you only have to redo one time.
