Ok I notice that my 122 with the mower deck throws a lot of clippings into the tractor frame. When i took it apart to clean it up and check it out i noticed a lot of brush/clippings were in the engines fan intake screen for cooling. The air cleaner tends to fill up very quickly too.
I been wondering how often do you guys clean the fan screen on the engine?
I did notice the engine running kind of hot before i took it apart while mowing too. There was a lot of heat comming off of it. After cleaning it it seems to be running a lot cooler now too.

The answer is "as needed". I have noticed that when mowing taller grass, not lawns, the air cleaner and fan cover plug up much faster. I replace the air cleaner filter once or twice during the mowing season.
As a suggestion. Probably once a month during mowing season, blow out the engine's cooling fins with compressed air. Perhaps once a year remove the engine's sheet metal and give cooling fins a good cleaning.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Since kolher recomemds cleaning the carbon from the head once a year I was thinking about checking everything once a year and cleaning the engines fan and screen too. But your right we have to checkout the engines cooling fins/screen often too.
I rooled out my cadet 122 w/mower deck which i left full of grass on the top of the deck and had a baby mouse run out of the grass. It was cute for a minute till it died suddenly when he ran into a piece of plywood the edge just happen to split his personality now he's a unicycle....
