We wrapped up our garlic planting with 4,000 in the ground covered for the winter in a thick bed of seaweed mulch. Our goal is to hit 40,000. We have a long ways to go. Anyone planting garlic and what kind? We have German hard necks...purple and white and Elephant garlic.

You reminded me of when I was driving around the San Francisco area, after having just moved there. Decided to head south toward Monterey Bay, and passed through a very small agricultural town. A strong smell of garlic wafted into the car and I thought there must be a great Italian restaurant nearby. When I got back to San Fran, I mentioned it to a friend, and she laughed like crazy! She said that was Gilroy..."The Garlic Capitol of the World!!"

Planted an unknown variety of locally grown hard neck and white soft neck about a month ago. This is in central Missouri, in the Ozarks.

Plan on ordering soft neck, hard neck, and elephant garlic a bit closer to spring.

Only have about 100 sq. ft. of garden behind the house for the garlic, radish, and sweet white cherry tomatoes.

Have tried garlic before. For some reason it doesn't grow well in this area. The only one I have been, so far, to get to grow is the hard neck that I purchased at the local farmers market. Unfortunately, the hard neck has a small bulb and small cloves.

4000 seeds in the ground. You must be selling at the farmers market or to a commercial food processing plant.

Gilroy was a great town....I lived in Watsonville near there and always went to the garlic festival.

I like it, BUT it won't grow in this area.---Well it will grow,--just not make any bulbs! thanks; sonny

It is so easy to grow up in New England and it a good money maker.

Only doing .2 acres of garlic to see how it does and have more seed for the following year. Planting mostly hemp for cbd oil next year. Going to do experimental crops with the rest of the fields.

Interested in hemp. Apparently now legal to grow in USA.

Hemp was widely grown during WWII in the Midwest. You can still see hemp thickets along highways and river bottoms. And you can find Canadian made hemp products, mostly cloth, in stores.

Trying indoor container grown California white garlic. Planted 6 cloves just over a week ago. All cloves sprouted.

Also planted 4 cloves of elephant garlic. They haven't sprouted.

Garlic needs a period of dormancy before it will grow, don't I believe a hard freeze is required for some types. From reading on garlic cultivation, over wintering in the ground may be required to produce cloves.

Wife and I hauled off three straw bales from neighbor that were used as Halloween decorations. Mulched the garden plot, including the garlic. The ground has not frozen yet and with the straw insulation, probably won't.

Have a small space in the basement that wife has used for years to grow here plants. Built a bench to put the garlic pots. Wife promptly took over most of the bench, so I had to build a shelf that fit in the window for the garlic.

The garlic growing in the basement, just an experiment. Bored, need something to do during cold days. So watering and watching the garlic, interspaced with radish.

We are planting ours next Oct/Nov to winter out and be ready the following summer. Blue garlic is selling at the farmers co-op here for $8 a pound! We have been thinking of planting the garlic after the hemp is harvested and covering more acers. They are making over $50,000 an acer. I would be curious how others are profiting?
