Hello everyone,
I plan on installing a new field on my farm, that is all grass and weeds right now. I was wondering what you all use to eliminate the weeds and grass before turning it over to plant?
Thanks Jack

Glyphosate. How big is the field?

Re: New field
Glyphosate should do just fine. Wait until the grass and weeds leaf out before applying it.

Re: New field
Also check what all weeds you have, Round Up will take care of most, but some are resistant to it,

Re: New field
I would do two burn downs with Glyphosate, generic Roundup. One shortly after the grass and brush leaf out. Then again 2 or 3 weeks later to kill any emerging grass and weeds.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: New field
Would the weed killer work better if I mow it down first? Then spray the field, or dont it matter along as its actively growing.
Thanks
Jack

Re: New field
Doesn’t really matter. But, if you let the weeds get too tall it will take more chemical to do the job. Be sure to use the proper PPE when using the glyphosate.

Re: New field
Along same topic. I'm currently using "Spike 20", a pelletized herbicide to kill off individual plants. Previously used "Pronone, Power Pellet", but it was not available at local farm and ranch store.
Walk or slowly drive the area. Depending the size of the "weed" drop a pellet or pellets on the root zone. Using the pellets on multiflora-rose, eastern red cedar, thistles, honey locust, and other undesirable plants.
