Baby pear blossoms
I planted 14 apple, crab, and pear trees 2 weeks ago at the farm. I went back to check them today, all 14 are leafing out. 4 or 5 of them have blossoms!! Check out this Seckel pear 2 weeks after planting.

Re: Baby pear blossoms
While I was mowing to prep the planting site, I darn near punctured a tire or 2 on this shed antler. Good thing I was paying attention, I was within just a couple inches when I got the Ford stopped.

Re: Baby pear blossoms
nice trees [and antler too].
ya might want to put some chicken wire around the base to keep the rabbits from chewing on the trunk of the trees.
we lost 2 trees last year due to this.

I have window screen to wrap the trunk and pea gravel to lay on the fabric, just haven't done it yet.

Here is what that tree looks like today. So far, so good I would say. All 14 trees I planted from Turkey Creek look like this. I'm very happy with them!
I have been lucky with nice timely rainfall with sunshine between this spring. Hopefully it will continue. Not included here is the nice rain that we got yesterday.

I bought trees online...never again...I go to Big Lots and get them....Paid $14.99 for pear trees and they are 2 years old and taller than me....way taller....I should have pruned them this past winter....taken the height out of them...Oh well...lots of blossoms on them....Last year a late frost killed the blossoms...can't wait to use the extra pears to feed the deer.... I deal with a guy I "know" from a deer hunting forum, a hobbiest who grafts late-dropping, disease resistant varieties perfect for deer habitat plantings. Last year I had one apple tree that never woke up and he replaced it without question. I've been very happy so far.

Feed the deer? You need to use the deer to feed yourself!

Re: Baby pear blossoms
Hey Ketcham - I haven't been out to the farm in a couple weeks. I need to get back out there and check them. We had quite a bit of rain all spring, which was great for them. It dried up for a while, but we got 1/2" over Tues and Wed this past week. I'll post some pics when I get out there!

Re: Baby pear blossoms
I still haven't been out to check on them. The area got about .7" rain last night from what I heard, they should really like that drink! Its been a bit dry in the last 2-3 weeks. I think I'll head out there this weekend to do a little mowing and I'll check them out then.

Trees are doing well. This one is now at the top of the 5' cage. It has really shot out the new growth.
