Bow Season In 2 Weeks? It's Still 90 Degrees!

Not sure how many hunters we have here (I'm sure a lot) but bow season used to come in in WV the second week of October. Several years ago they made it late September. I can't see it it. Way too hot to hunt. I haven't done any bow hunting in several years, just too many shoulder issues to allow me to do things properly. Last year they finally passed the law allowing crossbows in WV. YEE-HAW! I'm excited for the new experience but and to get a chance to bow hunt again but I believe I'll wait a while.

It's things like this that keep your interest. Taken with a trail cam 8/9 at 1:58 in the afternoon. I would pass him up...............

I use to be big time into bow hunting, missed the state record by 1" once with a 13 pointer in 2003. For some reason I just can't get into it this year.................yet. This deer has 2 points above his eyes that you can't see. One is 1" long and the other is 7/8" long. In N.C. they have to be 1" to be score-able making him a 13 instead of a 14.

How bout this one? 17 pointer if you count the double brow tines. Lots so split tines. Biggest buck I ever got, probably the biggest I'll ever get, but they are out there. WV isn't really known for it's trophy bucks.

That's a nice buck you got on the wall! That 13 pointer I got him with a compound bow, this 9 point I got with a rifle 10 years later 1/2 mile from the 13 and he has a 2" sticker point in the exact same place.

Looks like you need to raise your ceilings! Do you have one that big tied up again for this year? Where did you say you live again?? Haha!

There's a couple whoppers where I hurt. Have seen them while I was pulling in the lane and few times before daylight. Hard to get into their areas without being detected. Gotta figure a way to sneak in. If you get caught they go fully nocturnal. My best bet is hunt when they are Ruth stupid. Last week in October is prime here.

Alright last one of my big ones, he's a large 8. My wife and I were at my parents one Saturday around 2 in the afternoon, rut was on. We were going to put some corn at my dads stand and he said I need to put a roll of hay out for the cows so he left on the tractor. A few minutes later he calls me and says get your rifle and come shoot this deer, it's the biggest one I've ever seen. I grabbed the rifle, ran about 300 yards and he's sitting on the tractor with it running and the deer is standing 25 yards from him. I stop, my dog sits beside me and the deer takes off running and stops at about 90 yards and turns broadside, the rest is history. My wife has a nice 10 point she got with a crossbow a few years ago out of the same field the big 9 came out of, I will have to find some pictures.

I'm with you. Too darn hot to get in the woods. I haven't even shot the crossbow yet (Christmas gift) but I plan to get to the range with it this weekend.

A friend of mine's crossbow exploded last week so I let him borrow mine until he gets another one. Told him I would use the wife's if I decide to go and she said she wants to go. Guess I need to get a place fixed up!

I hope mine doesn't blow up! I had a compound blow up on me before. This is my first year using a crossbow. Been seeing a lot of smaller bucks, but one one nice one.

Archery deer season started in Missouri Sep 15. Gun season opens some time in November.

Took wife on a trailer ride today to check the black walnuts, thistle crop, and deer food plot. One young doe was in the food plot eating forage radish. Lot of deer tracks in the wet ground.

Salt and mineral blocks for cattle. The mineral block had significant nibbles.

Local newspaper prints submitted deer hunt photos. Photos usually cover a page or two. The one photo I got a chuckle out of was a youth season photo with the deer, dad, and a young child in pajamas.
