Negative 5 degrees F
-5 degrees F wind chill, today, all day, and tomorrow. Only positive thing about being stuck in the house is that we can defrost the deep freezers. So, unloaded the freezers and unplugged. Will let defrost, then plug back in and reload.
Son was over this morning. He is going to order another 1/2 beef. Told son to place the offal in the order; heart, tongue, liver. Wife said to skip the liver. She doesn't eat liver, heart, or tongue. Sorry for her, the best parts of beef. Told the wife that son in-law wanted the liver for cat fish bait.

Re: Negative 5 degrees F
Yes, it's cold. Lows tonight in the negative single digits. Wind chill factors for most of the day will be hovering around zero or negative digits. Cold, just plain cold, and I know it's colder to the north, but cold is cold.

Re: Negative 5 degrees F
Temperatures have started to moderate here. We are up to around -5 now. That is a real temperature. Wind chill is a made up number to make is sound colder.

Re: Negative 5 degrees F
Wind chill is supposed to be what it is like on bare skin, but if people do not have any more since than to have a bunch of bare skin at that temperature they deserve to get frost bite.Jim Becker wrote:.....Wind chill is a made up number to make is sound colder.

Re: Negative 5 degrees F
Old enough to wimp out easily. It's a bit warmer than negative 5 degrees F wind chill. But it still cold enough that I have no business doing anything outside for longer than a couple of minutes.
Have enough inside (wife's) projects to keep me busy for this winter. Currently working on an antique secretary for wife. Should have son help me bring in a Kohler K341 from garage for an engine rebuild.
K341 is to be mated to a 10KW generator head to power the acreage shop.
Edit: Accumulating scrap metal parts and pieces. No enough to load up the pickup and haul to a scrap dealer, no profit in that anyway. Neighbor down the street lost his drivers license. Said that he would get it back in a month or so. Hope that's the case. When he is up and functioning, easy for me to just stop by and throw scrap metal into his pickup or trailer bed.

Went to Springfield today to get a tractor. Was 4degree when I left this morning, 8 degrees at Springfield at noon, 6 degrees when I got home, I did notice truck said 14 degrees when coming through Joplin. Other than cold was a nice last day of year.

Here in NW Iowa we had a high of -10 today. Will be -24 during the nite. Neither of these numbers are wind chill. Actual temps.

Re: Negative 5 degrees F
We've had three record lows in the past week. All three days had highs that were lower than the average low for that date. Lows about -7 to -8. We're having a heat wave this morning, 11 degrees. No relief in forecast. If the lake (Michigan) continues to freeze our temps will really go down. Coast Guard ice breakers busy freeing ships in Lake Superior. I don't know why the Corps of Engineers don't shut the Soo locks down. Gas company loves us. Stay warm. Vern

Re: Negative 5 degrees F
The past few Winters have been pretty mild, around here, perhaps it has returned this year. Temps here have been running -10 to +10 for the past week and not much change for the next week. The extended forecast shows that it may warm a bit after that. Fortunately, we haven't had a whole lot of wind with the cold. The snow fall has been moderate so far, probably about 5" on the ground. I'm thankful we don't have that "lake effect" thing here! Those people have had a real challenge with the heavy snows they have been getting.

Re: Negative 5 degrees F
I don’t see how y’all do them negative temps. It was 11 degrees Fahrenheit when I came out this morning with a high of 29 forecast for today. It’s the last day of deer season so me and a friend are going this afternoon.
