Got a new to me Cub with IH 3160 deck. There is no plate on the front left frame. Runs ok, needs general TLC. Any other way to tell which I have.

Pics would help. Does the pto drive off the drive shaft or crankshaft rear flywheel.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Re: Cub 154 or 185
Welcome. The 154 and 185 are basically the same tractor. The 185 has a bit more horsepower due to upgrades in the internal engine parts.
There were some cosmetic changes to the dash between the 154 and 185.
The parts book lists a change in the manifold and carburetor between the tractors. But, I have a 154 with a Zenith carburetor and manifold that is listed as a change with the 185 model.
Search this site for several discussion on the differences.
Now that you have two posts on this site you can down load and print out the manuals for the tractor. Upper left of this page, Quick Links for the manuals.

Looks like flywheel drive for pto. 2 belts run jackshaft pto with the expensive pto clutch at the splined end,--- standard for both 154 and 185--- I have both models. ---- cant tell them apart sittin side by side. Neither model is any good without the creeper gear in them.

Re: Cub 154 or 185
From the outside, there aren't many differences between a 154 and 185. Most changes were internal to the engine. I would guess that the engine serial number (Rear of the carb) or the engine block revision may provide a clue.
External to the engine, the only different thing I can think of is the diameter of the intake manifold. The 185 had a larger intake manifold than the 154.
