Hi guys/gals
I need help with assembly of single spool valve for the mower/3 point on my 185. I got the o-ring kit from I-H it came with 7 o-rings of which only 3 seem to be the same as which I took out? Now in the messing around with it I have lost direction on which one goes where. (The actual kit was not available they said they had the o-rings that’s what I have).
Anyone have a breakdown that shows where the seals go and what size they are? P.O. had messed with a lot of different things on this machine, I have no doubt he was in here to.
This has a casting # 31921-C
H
This looks like a Eaton valve
Thanks
Al

Re: Controll valve assembly
Of the 3 you took out, are two outers different from the third center? One should have a lip facing both directions and two should have the lip on just one side. They also make a seal that is squared off and supposedly seals better than stock. The two outer seals, the lip will face inwards, the center should have lips facing both ways. There's a trick to sliding the spool in. One direction works, the other direction will fold the seal. It's been awhile since I folded a seal and had to buy a new one . Can you post any side view of your seals and of your spool?

Re: Controll valve assembly
Ok I’ll try to get some pics.
Btw none of them are “seals” all are o-rings.
I did remove 7 o-rings
I believe I have found places for all but 3. 2 of which I don’t have a place in this valve. Way to big.

Photo of complete breakdown
Circled in red are the o-rings intended for the detent cap and adapter plug.
Won’t let me send photo? File to large.

Re: Controll valve assembly
Look at this PDF and see if it helps.
No square rings that I know of, they should be standard round cross section orings. The fittings are face seal fittings and have what looks like orings but are not normal sizes, they are face seal sizes.
The spool valve is a lapped valve and has no seals/orings. The only seals for the valve itself are on the ends of the valve body. All the seals/orings are for the pilot valve, safety valve, valve body ends, and the face seals. Keep things clean and it is easy to renew the seals. What ever you do, do not lose the small balls for the detent. If you do pay careful attention to the size. To small and they will get stuck in the detent groove and you will not be able to move or even remove the valve!

Re: Controll valve assembly
Landreo, nice pdf. I've never worked on that exact valve, only Cessna's and Greisen's. I looked and looked for info. Glad you had it.

Re: Controll valve assembly
These valves are cessna valves but I believe cessna is now owned by Eaton.
New pdf with the old style valve.

Re: Controll valve assembly
Super pics!
Helps a lot. Those balls are some quick little buggers! One popped out and shot across my bench and hit the floor running. Got the shop pretty well cleaned up! Then a bit latter the other one rolled off and hit the floor. Shop cleaner yet.
Any way now it’s all togeather again. Thanks
I couldn’t find the nylon back up washers so had to reuse the old ones. Tough to get them to go back in without damageing them but I managed it.
Finally realized dealer put togeather kit and had two o rings wrong.
I really appreciate the great photos and info!
