Hub City PTO Reducer/Reverser on 184

Postby outdoors4evr » Thu Nov 14, 2019 2:36 pm

To date I have purchased both styles of PTO Reducer / Reverser for my tractor. Neither would line up with the bolt pattern from the mounting plates.
I now suspect the cast iron style I purchased may have been for a cadet, but alas the bolt pattern would not fit up and I don't want to drill cast iron.

The white one is meant to go on a cub and I used it as a template for a new bracket. Here it is hanging on my 184.

So I took this to JAS Steel near Imlay City, MI and they made a new bracket following this template. They punched a hole for the PTO and put the bends into it.

I brought it home with no holes for the mounting and drilled these myself.

Here it is mounted on the tractor. Works Great!

Finally. I am ready to rent a standard post hole digger, or run a corn grinder, or whatever small 540 RPM implement is available.

Looking at that second picture, I’m betting that the bracket is supposed to be mounted on the other side of the reducer when mounting to a cub.

Will this overload the pto system if your using the six spline reverser attachments?

I would use the six spline clutch on the reducer/reverser just Incase.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

There of course are horsepower and torque limitations on a cub or numbered series. I doubt the gearbox devours much hp. It clicks on and off easily.
My hopes are to run implements like post hole diggers, corn grinder, maybe a hay elevator. Low hp applications. I already have a tiller and of course a mower deck, so this just adds to the versatility of the lowboy.

The number tractors can do what ever a fcub can do I’m sure. The gear box can take it im saying a clutch maybe needed to take some pressure off the pto drive train.

I’ve had some violent lock ups with my 154/3260 mower deck with sticks and rocks I didn’t see in the tall grass.

The white one and its bracket has been sold to another forum member. The red one and the new bracket is is staying with the tractor for a while.
I would be willing to part with the cast mount as this doesn't fit the 184. I'm guessing it fits a Cub Cadet, but am not certain.

Thank you anyway. Looking for a 6 spline reducer.
