Creeper swapping...

Postby Ephillips2582 » Wed Mar 11, 2020 9:04 pm

Question for all you knowledgeable gents, I’ve got a busted down 185 (complete) with creeper, and a nice 185 without the creeper. How much of a pain in the ass is it to swap the creeper over? I’ve no doubt it’s worth it, but what needs to happen here? Thanks I’m advance.

Its a bit of a pain as all the sheet metal has to come off the rear of the tractor.
You will also need to swap the driveshaft. The one with the creeper is shorter.

You will need to open up the creeper to see what's the problem.

On my 154, the creeper was stuck in low when I purchased the tractor. Main problem was a sheared 1/2 moon key. Total repair cost was about $7-.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I would suggest an oil change for the creeper while it is out. When installed, these are pretty difficult to change the oil.
Use HyTran or compatible oil. Sounds like it could use an opening up to see what is going on inside. There are some pretty good How-To's for a creeper.

Do whatever you have to do to change it and never look back! The creeper is 99.9 % of making a REAL mower out of a 185, 154 . ---I don't use the other 185 or the 154 cause they are useless without creeper. The 185 that I use has it and will mow about anything you can run over!--even electric fence posts hidden in the weeds.---not something I am proud of doing, but it does happen!---also with fat tires and creeper it will hang on my steep roadsides here in front of the house where the little mowers wont! --- ride the right brake peddle and steer uphill and let it eat! The little mowers wont go half the way up before sliding down.

No creeper great mower, plow snow, any non powered attachments it can pull. With a creeper it can throw snow, till any powered attachments.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Might be easier to use parts off of the nice 185 to fix broken one than to swap the creeper. whats broke on it?
