Well, it’s non alcoholic, but I’m sure it’ll help with any indigestion!! Lol!

Looks like I got some water in the trans of the Lowboy 154. The final drives both looked reasonable. But not the trans. Anyways, after looking for a drain plug and not finding it, I pulled the hydraulic suction line off the bottom of the trans to drain it. I changed the hydraulic filter and filled the trans with Case/IH Hy-Tran fluid. I think it got most of it, but I’m thinking about flushing it in a couple weeks worth of mowing/operating the deck lift and three point hitch, then filling it again with new Hy-Tran. Do these transmissions pick up a lot of water? Or is this just from years of lack of changing the fluid?

Different amounts of water for different factors. Obviously, if left outside uncovered, rain water can get into a tranny, but just the change of temps and humidity can cause condensation to form inside the case. Over time, your result occurs.
Always a good idea to change the fluid on a regular schedule.

TIP: After draining a particularly nasty hydro oil/fluid, fill it up with kerosene and drive it around some, then drain. Can do that several times until most of what comes out is clear (or almost clear). Then, re-fill with fluid. Hy-Tran is too expensive to use as a wash.

BTW: That lighter, ochre color in the center of your bucket is the color I was trying to find to paint a wrought iron table with last week. Couldn't find it, so went with dark forest green.

On a number series tractor, where the trans is also the reservoir for the hydraulic system, I don’t think I would do the kerosene flush. I think the plan to do another change, soon is spot on. You don’t normally see quite so much moisture on a number series.

Totally agree with Gary! Hytran is expensive, but so are hydraulic pumps!
The hytran can probably absorb the leftover water. The fact that this is yellow and not clear with brown liquid on top tells us that the hytran did the job keeping the water suspended.

My hyd fluid was white probably never changed by the PO. There’s a drain plug on the bottom of the tranny. Change the filter too.
