I have been tinkering with a 154 i just recently bought and i have run into nothing but problems with parts either not fitting not working needing slight modification to fit and just down right failing within an hour or so of use.
It's been a few years now that i have noticed a steady decline in product quality from NAPA, TSC, YT CO and a couple others.
Is there anyone left selling decent stuff or is it all turning to junk?

Everything i have bought for a 154 i just got has been junk, Pertronix elec ignition BAD, ammeter reads erratic as hell bouncing all over, throwout bearing wiped out and chirping and chattering within an hour and yes it was greased and adjusted right, pressure plate didn't fit flywheel without modification, pilot bushing needed boring to fit driveline diameter, clutch brake assembly had to be mixed with old parts to function properly and the list goes on.
It is now sitting around back of the shop as i refuse to waste anymore money supporting any company that knowingly takes my hard earned money selling junk they know isn't right.

Yes, but you pay a premium for quality parts.Grey Ghost wrote:Is there anyone left selling decent stuff or is it all turning to junk?
Research the part before buying.
Note. The pilot bushing is normally reamed after being installed in the flywheel.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Does anyone sell decent parts anymore
Sorry to hear of your parts struggles.
I guess I've had pretty decent luck with most parts I have bought. The only part I have bought over and over are clutches. I did have to ream the pilot bushing, though I understand that this is "normal".
The Pertronix 1442 should fit and work well with your numbered lowboy. I have been running one since 2012.
The erratic ammeter is probably due to a failing battery connection - most likely the ground where it connects to the tractor. Most owners move the ground off the seat assembly to a bolt on the transmission.
I have had pretty decent luck with HamiltonBobs and Steiner parts.

Re: Does anyone sell decent parts anymore
I have three 154’s, all need work, I have a fourth 154 in spare parts on a shelf. I been laid up health wise, it’s on the to do list but I get side tracked.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
