I really do feel like I'm dumb.I have the manual and still don't understand the procedure.I have noted each plug 1,2,3,.I see the drain plug at the bottom of #2 and think full would be when it come out of plug #2.The part that bugs me is how to drain #1and#2.Are all three associated with #2. You can remove the hydraulic fluid return line on the bottom front of the differential/trnasmission.
My method, remove the plate/cover on the rear of the diff/trans. Un bolt, gently pry up the bottom of the cover to slowly drain the hydraulic fluid. Clean everything up. Use RTV as a gasket when replacing the cover or buy a gasket.
I read your question as: how to drain 1 and 3, which are the final drive housings and separate from the transmission housing in the center (2). The answer is to remove the pans on the front side of the housings. (This is just like the pans on the bottoms of the final drive housings on your Farmall A.)
I drain mine with the transmission drain plug (no. 18). I seldom change the oil in the wheel gear boxes, but when I do, I use an oil extractor (like a big syringe) with a piece of flexible tubing and just suck it out. Auto parts places usually carry them.
