3 point hitch option on 184
I have little experience with the 3 point hitch option for the 184. I believe there are "category numbers" associated with different 3 points? What is it considered on the 184? I am just wanting a set of forks that will work on the 184 to move pallets around. Maybe a blade for moving a small amount of snow. I have the McKey 2 stage snow blower that mounts on the front for the large snow falls

The 184 has a category 1 hitch.

Thanks, Do you happen to know how many lbs the tractor can lift with the 3 point? I didn't know if it would lift 800 lbs or not. I have engines on pallets that I want to move around from time to time.

Not much with pallet forks. Leverage. Guessing 200 - 250 lbs and that would make the front end very light.jensenracing77 wrote:Do you happen to know how many lbs the tractor can lift with the 3 point?
I have an excuse. CRS.

Probably not 800 lbs, but should be able to handle 500lbs - depending on the leverage.
Here's my 184 with a 3-point bucket and a medium size load of dirt. The front end gets light, but drive-able with a large bucket of dirt.
Standing on the back of the bucket with a load of dirt will lift the front tires.
Also, I find that the hydraulic system won't lift more than the tractor. Adding weight to the front doesn't really help much. When pushing the limits of the tractor, (filled the bucket with a large rock) I had to accelerate the tractor, have son hold the lift lever, and assist lifting the bucket to get it off the ground. The hydraulic system would hold the weight, but would not lift the load on its own. I got it 3" off the ground and was steering with the brakes. #verysketchy

Good way to break the frames on the tractor! ----I have a 154 that was broke in half when I got it. ---- I never understood why they ever put a 3-pt on the number cubs ----- totally useless for more than 3 to 500 pounds. I would like to put a 3-pt 4' snowblower on one that had the creeper box in it! ( probably have to triple the frame to handle it) That would do some serious snow moving!

Re: 3 point hitch option on 184
A 184 has a doubled (thick) frame at the rear axle - which a 154 does not.
The 3-point is VERY helpful with the tiller (if you have a creeper).

Re: 3 point hitch option on 184
My frame was cracked and welded it in 2007. Just checked it out while I have it all apart and the frame is still good. I have the McKee 5 foot 2 stage snow blower for the front. It is really heavy and unloads the back tires really bad. With the tire chains it does fine though. Boy does that thing blow the snow! I have the creeper drive and that is a must for snow blowing.

Hi,
Below is the LoBoy 184 operator's manual, if you don't have it. It has lots of info.
There is a table of contents on page 1.
The specifications begin on page 57, and it tells how much weight the 3 point hitch will lift on page 58.
It says 525 lbs, 24" behind the hitch point.
http://farmallcub.com/rudi_cub/www.clea ... index.html
The lubrication section begins on page 48.
I would check or change all the oils before using the LoBoy. Using a LoBoy with low oil in a gear housing can damage the parts in it.
There are 3 separate gear housings at the rear area of a LoBoy with 3 separate oil levels to check, the transmission, and 2 final drives.
There is a page of the contents not there. Page 1 shows items up to page 30.

Re: 3 point hitch option on 184
McKee definitely built the best snow blower for these machines. The two stage is heavy, but moves the snow to the next county.
At one time I owned an IH Model 50 (single stage snow puker) and it most often would barely move the snow just to the right of the tire.
Converting the tractor from grass mowing to snow throwing took about 4 hours. I can definitely see value in 3-point attachments.

I put a 3pt hitch from a 154 onto my 184. The setup is the exact same other than the color. I can lift about a half pallet with a 4' tall stack of shingles and that's pushing it to the limit. Don't worry about frame breakage, the lift capacity comes nowhere close to stressing the frame especially when all the weight is on the rear axles.
