Re: Finally found a154

Well the snow came and put a halt before I could get everything accomplished to try it out plowing snow. I need to work on the clutch and clutch brake yet, needs two front tires and misc schtuff. The fact that I set up my new to me regular cub with new rear tires, rims, chains and front tires I was good to go for plowing. After seeing how well the cub worked and I liked the higher visibility I may just scrap the idea of using the 154 for winter duties. It’s now time to straighten the above mentioned mechanicals out and get the mowing deck back on. As far as the front tires go I’ve been searching for posts on tire brand quality and see it’s all over the board and mss as y posts are old. I had purchased a cheap import tire for another mower and it constantly went flat and started to crack within a year. I sold it and don’t remember what brand it was to avoid it. What’s the current consensus on tires for the front?

Thanks Z

If you like skinny tires, just put some cheap trailer tires & rims on it.
If you like wide tires, take some rear tires from an old lawn tractor (MTD lawnmower) and bolt them on.

I guess before I’d go the skinny route I’d take the front wheels off my f cub which I put Carlisle implement tires on instead of the standard rib to try out that option. Im sure the turning will be easier. As far as the used lawn tractor wheel option I’m not going to go on a wild goose chase for used stuff. I’d rather spend a few expletive filled knuckle skinned hours of putting new tires on. Since it was nice yesterday I got my clutch and brake adjusted so everything is good there. My seat is a bit ragged too so I may look into one of the suspension ones while I’m at it. Does it ever end?

Thanks for the heads up. Numbers 17 and 30 and is actually called lower link assembly R and Left. Saw reference’s calling it a J bar and went with that. In the picture it’s obvious that it’s the two center brackets.
