Cub Deluxe Seat--Will It Fit a 184?

Postby eleedom » Wed Oct 05, 2022 2:14 pm

I have a 184 that I use to maintain a 3-1/2 acre property that has slopes, ruts and woods. The 184 seat sometimes makes it hard to hold on with the hills and ruts. I was hoping to put the Cub "Deluxe" seat with the back and side arms on the 184. Anyone know if it will fit? The 184 seat flips up, which the Cub seat did not do.

It could be made to fit with custom brackets. Things to consider are the gear shift lever clearance and the seat frame would probably have to be removed to install/remove the battery. Perhaps you could install grab handles on the fenders?

I just hang on to the fenders on my 185 ---- grab handles would keep your hands clean! --lot easier than messin with remannin a seat.

I've thought about the grab handle thing. The main problem is when a rut comes up when turning on a slope. The quick pitch has almost thrown me off a couple of times!

Sonny, I've been hanging on to the fenders, but the big problem is that when I need both hands on the wheel, the seat doesn't have anything to keep me from going over the side!

If you’re executing a violent enough maneuver, to throw you out of the seat, I’d think about slowing down.

Sounds like you need a tractor with a ROPS and a seatbelt!

It's only mowing in second gear, but when turning on a compound slope and you hit a rut, it tends to get interesting!

I have a spinner on my 185 so I steer with one hand and hold the fender with the other on my road banks AND I run first gear with creeper in low. The 185 and the sunstar 20 are the only 2 mowers that will stay on these banks! --- they are steep!

Sonny, thanks for the spinner idea. I thought about that. I've got a set of 2" spacers, so I thought about putting those on to bring the width out to about what the Cub has at its widest setting (56"). The 154/185/184 with the mower raised slightly has a really low center of gravity, so the additional width should make it even more stable.
