What did I do wrong?

Postby 1suffolkmare » Thu Mar 23, 2023 4:25 pm

I changed my fan belt and all seemed okay. I ran the machine twice for probably 5 to 10 minutes and it seemed fine. Not it's got a loud chirp and squeal from the front. I checked the tension on the belt and it was probably a bit tight so I loosened it up. The belt was actually hot to the touch. Now I've adjusted it but still I hear the chirp. Any suggestions? Does anything that involves the belt require lubrication?

Any pulleys have a bearing on the way out?

Are the pulleys in line with one another? Have you lubed the fan hub?

I haven't moved any pulleys and they appear to be inline. I wasn't aware that the fan hub needed grease. I will check into that. Thanks.

What kind of lubrication does the gan hub take? Is it grease?

Oil if like the f-cub.

I dont know if there is a number series manual in the pdf manual section. You might want to check there for the manual

I just reread the manual and I didn't see anything about oiling the fan hub. But I am game to try something. The tractor was running normal. I turned it off and went back a couple hours later and it was squaling to beat the band. Annoying.

You might try a little belt dressing and see if that helps.

Tractor is a 184 Cub Loboy. Fan belt squeeling - - check the fan and generator (may have an alternator) to see if they are locked up.

Would the fan or alternator just randomly lock up? It was running fine this morning for about 10 minutes. I let the guy who gave it to me come by and drive it around. It wasn't running when he gave it to me and he was pleased to see it going. When I went back to try it out again this afternoon, it started the squealing.

I'd suggest you pop the belt off and rotate the generator/alternator and fan hub to see if you can detect a problem.

Maybe just loosen the belts and check it?
